When I was a little girl
I had stars in my eyes and dreams in my heart
Now that I am a grown up
I have longing in my eyes and always seeking comfort through my heart.
When I was a little girl
I wanted to paint rainbows with my fingers and every breathe smelled heavenly
Now that I am a grown up
I have sweat on my plams and desperation in every breathe I take.
When I was a little girl
I had wings to fly and a spring in every step I took
Now that I am a grown up
I have little patience for butterflies and every step is a hurdle , a burden , a bitter truth.
When I was a little girl
I believed in unicorns and danced just because I could
Now that I am a grown up
I am weary of every glance and fidget on every thought that passes through my mind .
When I was a little girl
I was precious and protected and promised the entire world
Now that I am a grown up
I wonder if my living is still worth it .
When I was a little girl all I wanted was a hand to hold and my mothers bright smile
Now that I am a grown up all I wish is for a reason to smile and a shoulder to be at peace at the end of the day.
